DIVE Into Science
CD-ROMs are college preparatory interactive video lectures and labs that
teach physical science, biology, chemistry, and physics from a Christian
worldview. Each CD contains digital whiteboard lectures, hands-on
interactive video labs, review questions, quarterly exams, and solutions to
every review question and exam question. Except for physics, the DIVE Into
Science curriculum can be used with any high school science textbook
Video Lectures
Each science CD-ROM contains interactive video
whiteboard lectures that teach the complex topics in physical science,
biology, and chemistry. Students watch the DIVE Science lecture and take
notes. Taking lecture notes is good preparation for college courses, where
taking good notes can mean the difference in passing or failing.
Review Questions with Video Solutions
Printable assignment sheets are provided with each
lesson, and contain a list of definitions and review questions to complete
for each lesson. Solutions to each review question are presented on the
digital whiteboard so students can see and hear a detailed explanation of
each question.
Interactive Video Labs
Dr. Shormann has created hands-on interactive
video labs that teach students exactly how the lab should be set up, how to
use the equipment, and fully explains the lab procedure. As he teaches,
students record necessary information on their Lab Sheet. At the end of
each lab students answer several questions on their Lab Sheet concerning the
results of the lab. Video Solutions for each lab ensures students fully
understand the concepts. Students can either complete the labs using their
own lab equipment or they can simply watch the video.
Quarterly Exams & Solutions
Each title in the DIVE Into Science series
contains four quarterly exams with step by step solutions. These exams are
considered “college preparatory” because they are based on DIVE lectures and
assignments which cover six to eight weeks worth of information, similar to
college exams.
Yearly Syllabus
Each DIVE Science CD contains a detailed syllabus
explaining exactly when to complete each lecture, lab, homework assignment,
and quarterly exam. This is all organized into one comprehensive chart,
making it easy to know exactly what do each week. Assigned reading is
listed topically so students can use any high school science textbook.
Required
Materials
A science textbook is the only required material
for each course. We recommend using a Christian textbook such as Abeka,
Apologia, or Bob Jones. If you are planning to take the corresponding CLEP
exam we recommend using a Bob Jones textbook as it is a rigorous, college
preparatory curriculum. If you plan to use Apologia it is necessary to
complete Biology and Advanced Biology or Chemistry and Advanced Chemistry in
order to prepare for the corresponding CLEP exam. See CLEP Professor for
information on how students can gain up to 33 hours of college credit for
high school courses.

Titles
Dive
Into Physical Science CD-ROM (9th Grade) – This course
lays a solid foundation for chemistry and physics. Topics include atoms,
chemical compounds and reactions as well as force, motion, thermodynamics,
and electricity. Click here to
see the DIVE Physical Science Syllabus for BJU Physical World.
DIVE Physical Science Reading Syllabus for
Apologia Physical Science. Students need to have completed Algebra I or be taking it
concurrently. Available spring 2009 for $50
Dive
Into Biology CD-ROM (10th Grade) – A college preparatory
course. Some parts of biology involve memorization of many names and parts.
Because of this, about half the lessons do not have a lecture, as Dr.
Shormann wants students to spend time defining terms and memorizing facts.
The Video Labs include many detailed photographs and videos of microscopic
organisms, as well as descriptive earthworm, crayfish, fish, frog and pig
dissections. Click here to see
the DIVE Biology Reading Syllabus for the BJU Biology Textbook. Upon completion of this course and CLEP Professor for Biology
(available spring 2009) students can earn up to 8 college credits by passing
the CLEP exam. $50
Dive
Into Chemistry CD-ROM (11th Grade) – A college
preparatory course that contains 58 lectures and 22 labs, 16 of which are AP
labs. Upon satisfactory completion of chemistry and CLEP Professor for
Chemistry (available spring 2009), students can earn up to 8 college credits
by passing the CLEP Chemistry exam, allowing students to receive both
college and high school credit. Students need to have completed Algebra 2 or
be taking it concurrently.

DIVE Chemistry Lab Supply Kit.

Dive
Into Physics CD-ROM (12th Grade) - A college preparatory
Advanced Placement course teaching the Saxon Physics textbook. The textbook
is similar in format to the Saxon Math series, with 100 lessons, each with a
20-problem homework set. Saxon Physics does not have a lab manual, so Dr.
Shormann created his own. He used several thousand dollars worth of lab
equipment, including photo gate timers, radar guns, digital balances, and
more. This makes for some interesting experiments; however purchasing
equipment for these labs is not practical for most families. Therefore, an
equipment list is not provided. However, most of the electronic experiments
can be performed with less than $50 of equipment purchased at Radio Shack or
similar stores. Students need to have completed Advanced Math or be taking
it concurrently. Saxon Physics Home Study Kit and Solutions Manual are
required. Available Now $50
