"After using DIVE's Science programs and being very pleased, we switched to using DIVE with Saxon for math. My 9th grade son took this course, watching the daily lectures and following Dr. Shormann's suggestions for homework completion and correcting. “I remember the first day 4 yrs ago when my daughter first watched the DIVE CD. She came running up to tell me to sit down and watch the cd with her because she couldn't believe how her teacher is proudly stating that he is a Christian and either accept it or turn it off sorta way. NO sugar coating it in a way that might offend those that are NOT Christians. Along with our standards and thru Dr. Shormann’s teachings, she is a very strong Christian young woman. So, with great thanks and gratitude for the straight forward thinking and influence through their education. I also find great satisfaction when my strong-willed child listens to Dr. Shormann's course and nails his weaknesses every time!!!!! And when he says, "Don't be lazy, have a good attitude and take advantage of the opportunities God gives you." Karen, my son looks at me every time he hears this with a grin and I just tell him I love him for be honest and smart. But nothing better when we are trying to prove a point and they hear the same exact words from someone else. It is funny and he and I have fun with it in a good way. “The Advanced Math text and DIVE videos represent the fourth math curriculum that we have purchased from DIVE. We continue to use and purchase from DIVE for several reasons. As a former math teacher, first, I appreciate the clear and distinct way that Dr. Shormann introduces the material. In addition, the Saxon curriculum has worked extremely well for our family as it reinforces in each lesson from previous lessons. And lastly, the videos and text work beautifully together. “Tech support was personal, friendly and patient. We purchased the iTunes U course to make better use of the ipad mini my son bought for himself and mom didn't want another game. We have the cd's but needed something easier for when were on the road. This is exactly like the cd's. We were able to do our research before the ipad was purchased and all the information we needed was available in some way. Not being tech savvy I had trouble downloading correctly and sent a message via email and phone and with in 24 hours or so I received a call from Karen Shormann and she graciously and patiently walked this non tech mom through every step. “My son was bored with our previous math curriculum and was discouraged about doing math. Even though he enjoyed having me teach it, the lessons frustrated him. He couldn't even stand looking at the book! No matter how hard I tried to make it exciting, nothing helped...until this year! We had both researched the Saxon Math for seventh-grade here and he wanted to try it out. I placed the order right away because I noticed how excited he became and as soon as it arrived he tried it. Today, he is doing his math quietly and enjoying every bit of it. The course is awesome. He likes the way the teacher explains the problems with such clarity without the unnecessary jargon-as he calls it. He also likes the fact that the problems in the problem sets are mixed up, so you don't get stuck doing a single line of the same type of problem, e.g., a single line of addition, subtraction, etc. He is eager to begin math every morning and does it on his own. “I've been using Saxon math while homeschooling my daughter for years now. As she progressed each year, it got harder and harder for me to teach her. I felt like I was simply learning it all right beside her. It was very frustrating to keep having to tell her to wait while I looked up online or elsewhere in the book how to do certain types of math problems. It was also time consuming. I finally gave in and purchased the DIVE Cd for Algebra 2 and I only wish I had done it earlier! The lessons range from 6 minutes to 20 minutes. He is concise and gets the lesson done without wasting anyone's time. It isn't splashy and high-tech but it's fast and easily understood. My daughter appreciates the short lessons. Don't get me wrong, the lessons are short, but all of the necessary teaching is there. “We have been using DIVE for years and are VERY pleased with his approach. He has a peaceful voice and my kids, 15,13,and 11 love listening to him. I walk around the corner to find him teaching them scriptures like "hold onto instruction for it is your life" Proverbs and others. I especially appreciate his encouragement at the beginning that tells the kids how important their attitude is to learning. “We have always used Saxon math for the elementary grades and found them to be a great method of learning. In regular math books, you learn one action, then you move on to another chapter, and another action. By several chapters in, it's easy to forget the skills learned in the early chapters. But with Saxon Math/Algebra--you learn that days new action, and the 30 problems of daily-work are a mix of all the previous chapters problems and your new actions. So you perpetually work on all the problems you learned in previous chapters, and get better and better at them. Full disclosure--it had been some time since I had an Algebra class. So for the first part of the Saxon Algebra book, I was fine in teaching it. We struggled a wee bit, then I purchased this Disc. It's fantastic! The video clips are simple: some 5-minutes some -12 mins in length, but he addresses each chapter of the book, and clearly shows you how to work the equations. I wish I had purchased this at the beginning of the year, and I know when we move on to Algebra 2--I will look for a D.I.V.E. CD-ROM to accompany it. Saxon Math/Algebra always puts the chapter number next to the equations. Example: "8(35)" So you can see that question 8 was work we did in chapter 35. So if you can't remember how to do that type of equation--you at least know where to go back in the book and look for the information. And, in the case of the CD-ROM, what chapter to go back to and watch. This CD-ROM is great accompaniment to the Saxon Algebra textbook.” - R. L. Smith
