CD-ROM VERSION. Complete curriculum on CD-ROM with video lectures and labs that do all the teaching for you! A printable workbook and lab manual, video solutions to workbook and lab activities, glossary, weekly assigment chart, grade calculator and free Q&A email service with Dr. Shormann.
DIVE Biology is a complete one year curriculum that does all the teaching for you! Designed to be used as either an Advanced Placement course or a regular high school course, it is excellent preparation for the AP Biology exam which awards up to 8 hours of college credit. Topics include but are not limited to Science and Christianity, biochemistry, cells, genetics, Creation/evolution, bacteria, protozoans, fungi, plants, animals, ecology and human anatomy.
DIVE Biology will also encourage students to become naturalists. One of the first tasks God assigned Adam was to name the animals, giving Adam a chance to become familiar with the animals he had been given responsibility for. Today’s science classes typically don’t emphasize the naming of plants and animals, and most students probably could not name 10 bird species that live near them, not to mention plants, mammals and other organisms. DIVE Biology encourages the memorization of plant and animal names through the use of Biology Facts Quizzes. These are computer-based quizzes that give students an opportunity to memorize a list of plants or animals, plus other lists such as the names of human bones.
Students using DIVE Biology will become adept at working with the scientific method, will be familiar with the use of technology in science, and will develop their lab skills above and beyond most of their peers. Most importantly, students will have a better understanding and appreciation for the rich Christian heritage that exists in science, and will better understand the importance of studying His Word and His Works as they seek to become good rulers of Creation.

WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT CHART
A syllabus, or weekly assignment chart, provides lesson plans for the entire year.
VIDEO LECTURES TEACH COMPLEX CONCEPTS STEP BY STEP
Weekly video lectures teach complex concepts step by step on a digital blackboard. During the lecture, students take notes and work interactively, just like a live classroom. Connecting Scripture to science, Dr. Shormann teaches from a 6-Day Creation Worldview. He inspires students to DIVE deeper into science and Scripture by teaching that science is a tool for understanding God and the purpose and pattern evident in Creation. After the lecture, a worksheet is completed which provides an opportunity to apply the new concepts.
VIDEO LABS SPARK STUDENT INTEREST AND FULLFILL AP REQUIREMENTS
Taught using the scientific method and real lab equipment, students formulate a hypothesis, perform the experiment, and then use the results to determine whether their hypothesis was correct. With a special emphasis on important techniques used by biologists, including chromatography, colorimetry, and gel electrophoresis, these labs are designed to "WOW!" the student, sparking curiousity and a desire to learn more. During the lab, the students work interactively, taking notes and answering questions in their lab manual. DIVE Biology labs incorporate all the labs required by the College Board’s AP Biology program. Optional lab kits are available.
PRINTABLE WORKSHEETS, LAB MANUAL AND GLOSSARY
Following each lecture a worksheet is completed, which provides an opportunity to apply what the student has learned. Lab activity sheets are completed as students watch the video lab and work interactively, as they take notes, make observations, and work problems along with Dr. Shormann. A glossary is also provided for defining terms.
VIDEO SOLUTIONS ENSURE UNDERSTANDING
Dr. Shormann provides video solutions for every question on the worksheets and lab activity sheets. Teaching how and why, each complex concept is taught step by step on the digital blackboard. These solutions ensure that your child understands each concept.
QUARTERLY EXAMS PREPARE FOR COLLEGE
Every 8 weeks there is an exam. Quarterly exams promote study habits similar to what a student should expect in college, where exams are given infrequently and cover a large amount of material. On the week of the exam, no other work is assigned. If you would like an AP course, we recommend giving the exams traditionally with a one hour time limit. If you prefer a regular high school course, give the exams open book, open note, or with a "cheat sheet". Of these, we like the "cheat sheet" method because it best teaches students how to prioritize and organize the information, providing an easier transition from weekly to quarterly exams.
Q & A EMAIL SERVICE PROVIDES A LIFELINE
While our program is very comprehensive, occasionally a little extra help is needed. Students and parents can email Dr. Shormann directly anytime they have a question concerning the course. Emails are answered within one business day or less.
GRADE CALCULATOR CALCULATES GRADES IN A SNAP
Simply type the homework and exam grades into the provided spreadsheet. It will automatically weight and calculate the overall grade for the course. Grades can be entered daily, weekly, quarterly, or yearly.
FREE INTERNET TEXTBOOK FOR ASSIGNED READING
To prepare for the lecture, a reading assignment is completed. This can be done using our Internet Textbook, a chart with links to internet sites to the weekly reading assignments. These websites were specifically chosen by Dr. Shormann to fulfill the required reading. If you prefer a traditional textbook, we recommend Bob Jones Biology or Apologia's Exploring Creation with Biology along with their Human Body. However, since we have a reading syllabus for just about every publisher, you can choose any textbook you like. SEE READING SYLLABI.
EARN UP TO 8 HOURS OF COLLEGE CREDIT BY EXAM
Upon completion, we recommend completing our CLEP Professor for CLEP and AP Biology, a three week course that specifically prepares students for the CLEP and AP Biology exam, which awards up to 8 college credits. Click on the link above to learn more about this program.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The course is set up on a 32 week schedule with an average of two video lectures, two worksheets, 20 definitions, and one lab to complete each week. Every 8 weeks there is a quarterly exam. The lecture and lab videos average 30 minutes each, but don't forget to add time for pausing, rewinding, and note-taking. This is what a typical week would look like:
DAY 1: COMPLETE DEFINITIONS & ASSIGNED READING
DAY 2: LECTURE 1, WORKSHEET 1, WATCH VIDEO SOLUTIONS FOR MISSED QUESTIONS
DAY 3: LECTURE 2, WORKSHEET 2, WATCH VIDEO SOLUTIONS FOR MISSED QUESTIONS
DAY 4: WATCH VIDEO LAB (HANDS-ON NOT REQUIRED), LAB WORKSHEET, VIDEO SOLUTIONS
EVERY 8 WEEKS : QUARTELRY EXAM -NO OTHER ASSIGNMENTS
