II.  How to Open a Lesson in QuickTime

  1. This method ensures that the lessons are opening in QuickTime.
    1. Put the CD in the drive then double click on the QuickTime icon on your desktop.  If you can’t find the icon click on Start Programs>QuickTime>QuickTime Player.
    2. Click on File > Open File > Your CD drive (Vista users will have to click on Computer first then the CD drive) > then double click on the lesson you wish to view.  If you have not watched the Introductory Lesson, you will need to click on Open Me First, then double click on Getting Started file and watch that with your child before viewing any of the lessons.
    3. When the player opens click on Edit>Preferences> Player Preferences> then deselect “Show Content Guide at start up” by click on the check mark.  Then click Apply then OK.
    4. Click the play button at the bottom of the player.  If you can’t see the play button, click and drag the box up until you can see the button. If the screen is too large to drag, click on the square in the upper right hand corner next to the X to minimize the player.

III. Common Problems

1.   Menu doesn’t open or lessons don’t play correctly.

a.   The solution is to open lessons directly in QuickTime:

If you have not watched the Introductory Lesson, you will need to click on Open Me First, then double click on Getting Started.

2.  Pop up window asks if I want to “Restore file types to QuickTime”

a.   Choose Yes

3.  Error message says “A later version of QuickTime is already installed on your computer."

a.   This means you do not need to install or update your QuickTime Player.  Click OK and then continue with the instructions to view the Introductory Lesson.

4.   Inappropriate ads and movie previews display when I open QuickTime.

a.  Open QuickTime and click on Edit >Preferences>Player Preferences.

b.  Click on the checkmark next to Show Content Guide at Start Up to remove the check.

c.  Click Apply then OK.

d.  Close the player and open it again.  You will now see a menu bar labeled Untitled. You will not see the ads anymore.

5.   Am I supposed to install the lessons?

a.  We do not recommend saving the lessons on your hard drive.  They are very large files which take up a lot of memory.  Should you choose to do so, we cannot assist you in this process due to the liability issues involved.
